Charlie, who was privileged to be born with the gift to beam himself forward or backward in time, is concerned with the psychological well-being of the good citizens both in the USA and Brazil. People in both countries have been thrown into states of emotional anxiety during the 2018 elections. By going back in time and speaking to patriotic and wise humans from the past, he has brought us some insight and, hopefully, perspective. See if you can guess who said what.
Try to beam yourself back, at least in your imagination. Which quotation do you think was said by:
a. George Orwell, pen name of Eric Blair, British novelist, essayist, social critic & journalist (1903 – 1950)
b. John Adams, 2nd president of the United States (1735 – 1836)
c. John F. Kennedy, 35th president of the United States (1917 – 1963; death by assassination)
d. Mahatma Gandhi, nonviolent Indian activist for independence against Great Britain (1869 – 1948; death by assassination)
e. Mao Zedong, Communist revolutionary & founder of the People’s Republic of China (1893 – 1976)
f. Martin Luther King, Jr., nonviolent American civil rights movement leader (1929 – 1968; death by assassination)
g. Plato, Greek philosopher & founder of the 1st institution of higher learning in the Western World (428/427 – 348 /347 BCE)

Betsy is my little sister, and I am very proud of her for her amazing language capabilities. When she was just a small girl, she would sometimes make up new words when she needed to, to avoid being slowed down by not knowing the “mainstream” word. Example: her word, “benext”, a combination of “beside” and “next to”, which simple meant “do lado” (but long before she ever encountered Portuguese, of course).
Betsy was the my English teacher in Uberaba, a long time ago…. An excellent teacher, a wonderful human-being. She gave me the nickname I gladly adopted ever since. We became close friends and we are still close – in our hearts.
Betsy is a very nice teacher. She is dedicate, loves the students and always try to help us with our problems. Every each class we can learn different things and Betsy prepares excellent exercises each day. I love my English Class.
